Transformer and fuse selection

Fuses have the ability to cut off high currents in less than 10 milliseconds and have a breaking capacity of up to 50KA, which makes them effective in protecting transformers. When selecting fuses, it is important to consider that the fuse current needs to be 1.6 times its rated value to cope with potential inrush currents. The designer should also allow a margin for the fuse, taking into account the fluctuations in the grid. If the fuse is to be used for high voltage motor protection, consideration should also be given to the frequency of motor start-ups, as frequent start-ups may result in the fuse not being able to cool down in time and thus failing.
